Editorial Standards

Standards governing all content published by ChalkUp Credit Solutions and all expert commentary contributed to external publications, platforms, and media outlets.

Last Updated: April 2026

Purpose and Scope

ChalkUp Credit Solutions publishes educational content on military credit rights, SCRA and MLA protections, VA loan credit preparation, PCS-related credit file management, security clearance financial considerations, and federal consumer credit law. This content is produced for active-duty service members, veterans, military families, and the financial and housing professionals who serve them.

These editorial standards apply to:

  • All content published on chalkupcreditsolutions.com
  • Expert commentary and quotes provided to journalists and editors
  • Contributions to external publications, blogs, or newsletters
  • Expert-sourcing platform profiles and responses (Qwoted, Featured, Source of Sources, and similar)
  • Workshop and presentation materials distributed publicly
  • Co-branded content produced in partnership with lenders, real estate agencies, or community organizations

These standards exist to protect the accuracy of information that military families rely on to make consequential financial decisions, and to protect the credibility of publications and organizations that cite ChalkUp as a source.

Source Requirements

All factual claims in ChalkUp content and expert commentary must be traceable to a primary or authoritative secondary source. The following source hierarchy applies.

Tier 1 - Primary Sources (Preferred)

  • Federal statutes: SCRA (50 U.S.C. Section 3901), MLA (10 U.S.C. Section 987), FCRA (15 U.S.C. Section 1681), CROA (15 U.S.C. Section 1679)
  • Federal regulatory agency publications: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Department of Justice (DOJ)
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs official publications and guidance
  • Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data - Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC)
  • Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports
  • Department of Defense official surveys and reports

Tier 2 - Authoritative Secondary Sources (Acceptable)

  • Peer-reviewed research published in academic journals
  • Reports from established nonprofit research organizations with documented methodology:
    • Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey
    • FINRA Investor Education Foundation
    • National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)
    • Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN)
  • Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports
  • Official state agency publications

Tier 3 - Supporting Sources (Contextual Use Only)

  • Reputable national news publications (The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reuters, Associated Press) - for context and framing only, not as primary factual sources
  • Industry trade publications with documented methodology

Excluded Sources

ChalkUp does not cite the following as factual sources in published content or expert commentary:

  • Unattributed statistics or claims without a traceable origin
  • Marketing materials from competitors or industry vendors
  • Social media posts, including from official accounts
  • Content aggregators, content mills, or SEO-optimized listicle sites
  • Anecdotal claims without documented basis
  • AI-generated content from any platform as a factual source

Factual Accuracy Protocol

ChalkUp applies the following procedures to all content before publication or submission.

Claim verification

Every specific factual claim - statistics, statutory provisions, agency findings, market data - is verified against its primary source before inclusion. Claims that cannot be verified to a Tier 1 or Tier 2 source are not published.

Statutory accuracy

All descriptions of SCRA, MLA, FCRA, and CROA provisions are cross-referenced against the current statutory text. Where regulatory guidance or agency interpretation affects application of statutory language, that guidance is cited in addition to the statute.

Numerical precision

Statistics are reported with the precision used in the originating source. ChalkUp does not round figures in ways that materially change their meaning. When a source reports a range, ChalkUp reports the range - not a single point within it selected for effect.

Currency of information

Content involving regulatory thresholds, lender requirements, agency enforcement postures, or market data is dated at time of publication. ChalkUp identifies when information may be subject to change and directs readers to primary sources for current figures. Pages are reviewed and updated when source data changes materially.

Uncertainty disclosure

When ChalkUp does not have verified information on a specific point, that uncertainty is disclosed. The phrase "I cannot confirm this" or an equivalent is used in expert commentary rather than an estimate presented as fact. ChalkUp does not speculate on regulatory outcomes, lender behavior, or credit score changes beyond what documented evidence supports.

Compliance Boundaries in Published Content and Expert Commentary

ChalkUp Credit Solutions operates under the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and applicable North Carolina credit services statutes. These regulatory frameworks impose specific content requirements that apply to all published material and external commentary.

No outcome guarantees

ChalkUp content and expert commentary do not guarantee, promise, or strongly imply specific credit score increases, item removals from credit reports, loan approvals, security clearance outcomes, or other credit-dependent results. Where outcomes are described - in case scenarios, educational examples, or contributed articles - they are anonymized, accompanied by explicit disclaimers, and framed as illustrative rather than representative or typical.

No false or misleading representations

ChalkUp does not represent that it can remove accurate, verifiable information from a credit report. Any content that implies otherwise - including content produced by a third party in co-branded or contributed formats - will not be approved for ChalkUp attribution.

Accurate service description

All descriptions of ChalkUp's services accurately reflect what credit advocacy involves: documentation, dispute procedures under FCRA, SCRA enforcement correspondence, and bureau communication. ChalkUp does not describe its services as legal representation, legal advice, or debt settlement.

CROA disclosure integration

Pages on chalkupcreditsolutions.com that describe ChalkUp's services include the required CROA disclosures - the right to cancel within three business days, the prohibition on advance fees, and the right to dispute credit report errors independently at no cost. These disclosures are not removed or condensed in contributed or co-branded content.

Expert commentary scope

In media interviews, expert sourcing responses, and contributed articles, J. GonzalezRamos speaks from the perspective of a military credit advocate with operational knowledge of federal consumer protection law - not as an attorney, a certified financial planner, or a federal regulator. The appropriate scope of expertise is the application of SCRA, MLA, FCRA, and CROA to military family credit situations. Commentary on legal enforcement strategy, investment decisions, or tax matters is outside that scope and will be declined or redirected to appropriate credentialed resources.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

ChalkUp Credit Solutions discloses the following standing interests relevant to the content it publishes and the expert commentary it provides.

Commercial interest

ChalkUp Credit Solutions is a for-profit credit advocacy firm. Educational content published on chalkupcreditsolutions.com and contributed to external publications serves both a public education function and a business development function. This dual purpose does not change ChalkUp's factual accuracy obligations, but readers and editors are entitled to know it exists.

Referral relationships

ChalkUp maintains referral relationships with mortgage lenders and real estate agencies in the Fayetteville, NC market. These relationships are structured around the return of credit-ready clients to referring partners - not compensation for referrals sent. No financial payment is received by ChalkUp in exchange for referring clients to specific lenders or real estate agencies. Where co-branded content is produced with a referral partner, that relationship is disclosed within the content.

No paid placement

ChalkUp does not pay publications, blogs, or platforms for editorial placement or to be listed in editorial directories. Any content attributed to ChalkUp in an external publication was contributed on the merits of the content and the publication's own editorial judgment. ChalkUp does not require or request that publications remove disclosure of this commercial relationship.

No advertiser influence

Advertising relationships - including MilitaryByOwner, Greater Fayetteville Chamber directory listings, or other paid placements - do not influence ChalkUp's editorial content. The businesses and organizations that ChalkUp advertises with are not given preferential treatment in ChalkUp's educational content or expert commentary.

Correction Policy

ChalkUp Credit Solutions corrects factual errors in published content promptly and transparently.

How to submit a correction

Factual errors in ChalkUp content - including statutory misstatements, incorrect statistics, outdated regulatory information, or factual inaccuracies in case scenario descriptions - can be reported directly to:

[email protected]
Subject line: Editorial Correction - [Page Title or URL]

Review timeline

Correction requests are reviewed within two business days. If the reported error is confirmed, the correction is made within five business days of confirmation.

Correction notation

Material factual corrections to published pages are noted at the bottom of the corrected page with the date of correction and a brief description of what was changed. Minor corrections - spelling, formatting, broken links - are made without notation.

External content

If a factual error in ChalkUp expert commentary has been published by an external outlet, ChalkUp will contact the outlet to request a correction and will make the same correction to any internal content that repeated the error. ChalkUp does not have authority to compel corrections from external publishers but will provide updated accurate information to any editor who requests it.

Expert Sourcing Platform Posture

ChalkUp participates in expert sourcing platforms including Qwoted, Featured.com, and similar services as a source - not as a promotional channel. The following standards apply to all platform responses and quote submissions.

Topic scope

Responses are limited to topics within ChalkUp's documented expertise - military credit rights under SCRA and MLA, VA loan credit preparation, PCS-related credit file management, FCRA dispute procedures for military-pattern credit damage, and the intersection of credit file health and security clearance adjudications. Off-topic queries are declined.

Accuracy over speed

Platform response deadlines do not override factual accuracy requirements. If a response cannot be verified to source within the available window, ChalkUp declines the query rather than submitting an unverified claim under time pressure.

No outcome claims

Expert quotes submitted through sourcing platforms do not include specific outcome guarantees, score improvement figures, or removal claims. All commentary on credit outcomes is framed around process, rights, and documentation - not results.

Disclosure

ChalkUp identifies itself as a for-profit credit advocacy firm in platform profiles and, where requested by an editor, in contributed quotes. The commercial nature of ChalkUp's services is not concealed from editors or readers.

Attribution accuracy

ChalkUp requests that quoted material be attributed to J. GonzalezRamos by name and title - Founder and Military Credit Advocate, ChalkUp Credit Solutions - not to a generic "credit expert" or "financial advisor" attribution. If an editor cannot accurately represent the attribution, ChalkUp prefers to withdraw the quote rather than be misidentified.

Guest Contribution Policy

ChalkUp accepts and contributes guest content under the following terms.

Contributed content from ChalkUp to external publications

All content contributed by ChalkUp to external publications is original, not simultaneously submitted to multiple publications, and factually sourced to Tier 1 or Tier 2 sources per the requirements above. ChalkUp retains the right to republish contributed content on chalkupcreditsolutions.com after a publication-specified exclusivity window. ChalkUp does not pay for placement of contributed content.

Topics ChalkUp will contribute content on:

  • SCRA and MLA rights for service members and military families
  • PCS move credit protection strategies
  • VA loan credit preparation
  • Deployment-era credit damage and FCRA dispute procedures
  • Security clearance and credit file management
  • Post-separation credit decline and prevention
  • Predatory lending patterns in military communities
  • Military spouse credit building

ChalkUp does not contribute content on general personal finance topics, investment strategy, tax planning, or areas outside its documented expertise.

Guest content accepted on chalkupcreditsolutions.com

ChalkUp's editorial standards for its own published content apply equally to any guest content published under ChalkUp's domain. Guest contributors must provide sourced, factually accurate content within the topic areas above. ChalkUp does not publish content that conflicts with CROA or FCRA compliance requirements, includes outcome guarantees, or promotes a competing credit services firm.

ChalkUp does not accept payment for publishing guest content, and does not pay guest contributors for content published on chalkupcreditsolutions.com.
